I had a coworker just yesterday open up a green patch cable to patch into my rack completely filled with matching orange ones. Afters seeing the look on my face he grabbed an orange one instead, hah.

Back in the day, I was responsible for a Verio POP and some small attached collocation space. I defined and documented a cable color code and then made sure that the ONLY color cable available for folks to use when I wasn't looking was red. It made it REALLY easy to find the 2am patch jobs.
I'm told that some of the "seriously, don't F this up" signs I posted are still on the walls today. I left Verio in 1999.
